    Got my R-07 a few weeks ago and already put it through the paces on a number of video productions. First one was in the orchestra pit for a dance recital. I was very pleased with the fidelity of the recording, especially since the board feed lacked any footwork audio (like tap dancing). I even compared it to a boundary mic taped to center stage, which had great percussive capture, but terrible fidelity for anything else. I then tried it out in a very loud club-like environment in "Loud Music" scene mode, with the limiter on. It was about arms length from the PA, and even though I had to drop the input level down to 5, I didn't hear clipping. I believe Rode uses hybrid analog/digital limiters, and they worked a treat. I own a bunch of Zoom recorders and accessories, including the Mid-side capsule, but I have to say that the low-end on the Rode is superior than anything I've gotten from Zoom. The only caveat is that with outdoor recordings, you'll really want to knock out any wind with a thick foam cap or (better yet) a fur muff.

    24mp works fine for me with 35mm, can print good at about 16"x20". When scanning medium format I'll take 4 scans and stitch em together for around 70mp result. Hey I think I use the same lens for scanning! Love that lens. If you want a good laugh, I just posted a silly youtube short showing how I do camera scanning. Anyway my fellow film tuber. SUBBED! Have a happy snapping day!

    yes, I can recommend a few things, a 'PRO shade', USE a hood or this shade ALWAYS, esp. if there is a lot of light, aka summer in Australia, with the 'ev' scale on the lens at 15 and over, GLARE is a real issue {no, or early lens coatings}, so, keep asa low (acros 100 or Kodak Gold 200); and use the m-up mode, and a tripod, as ALL lenses for this camera are Telephotos when converted to 35mm format, so motion blur is an issue, also if in doubt use a LOW aperture setting, to increase depth of field, esp. when shooting people, as this shoots like the fashion images in Harpes Bazaar [shallow dof, with pronounced subject separation], so if you need a deep dof, use f 11/16, macro lenses go down to f 32 so one set at f 11 is WAY further from the diffraction limit than on 35 format lenses\cameras.

    yes, at 3:25 you MUST do it slowly, and with care, Not as much of a problem with 500's but on the 200/2000 focal plane bodies, there is NO baffle, it's the SHUTTER itself!, so don't want to ding it!!!

  • @gerhardbotha7336

    So 20mpx and higher does well to scan a 35mm film slide at 1:1? For larger formats, you increase the rez by multiple shots and stichting - I guess. The grain thing I dont buy. If the noisy slide looks better by scanning it low rez, then you can downsample it or denoise it or such I am sure. The reason I summarise here is - there is no real option for a true 4x6 digital camera. So shooting MF on film and scanning by digital camera I think can be an option, in stead of making panoramic stitched images. You get the shot in one go, and you get the DOF and body movement effects.

    The F100 is a great camera, especially for the money. My only issue with it is the plastic film door latch - but there are metal kits available online to address that problem. I haven't needed to use one - yet - but that day is getting closer!

    The "F" in F100 comes from the "F" in re-F-lex, from the original Nikon F in the late 1950s. When Nikon re-entered the mirrorless market, they introduced a new mount, calling it the Z-mount. Z may have been chosen because it was available, so many letters are already being used for other mounts. The Nikon F5 and Z9 are very similar in build and design. I have not held the F100 and Z8 as much, but they seem to be comparable as well. The "Built Like a Tank" sense is there with both the F5 and Z9, and the "Built Like a Hummer" fits the F100 and Z8. Nikon DSLRs like the D1/D2/D3/D4/D5/D6 and D700/D800/D810/D850 fit the mold between 1999 and 2020 (2008-2017 for the second-tier).

    I am very happy I have an F100 but it sits mostly unused since I got an F6. I won’t sell the F100 though. I save it for times when I don’t want to risk the F6 to damage or theft.

    I have one but I have to say I prefer the canon eos 3. I bulk load vision 3 and the f00 is not good for bulk loaded film. It retracts the film all the way back in the canister and I’ve also noticed that the Nikon tends to think my bulk loaded films are at the end long be for my 36 exposures.

    Good video, great results! Stirring it(instead of rocking it up down) is nice tip. Doing two rolls at a time is also a great tip! Need it for B/W as well. Trying to see if there is a difference doing it this way v/s shooting digital, converting to color. Essentially to know if B/W film will be closer to B/W digital back(16 bit) which are expensive, and not all cameras support b/w digital back.

    Hi Dave, I followed the way you set up to set jpg to mono HC, however now even if I change to shoot DNG the m11p still shoots in mono than colour? Isn't😂 it supposed to only shoot mono photo in Jpg format and keep DNG in colour?

  • @urwholefamilydied
    @urwholefamilydied 28 днів тому

    10:26 not way more pleasing to me... just looks like it was shot through a worse lens or something... OR looks like it was shot on a digital camera vs film. You expect 3200 film to be grainy... you're not trying to cover that up after the fact (or if you do want to hide it, you can do so through photoshop). But if you are shooting high speed film that's sort of the point, getting that film grain. Otherwise shoot a lower speed film with a flash or proper lighting. Anyway, the 50MP scan on the left just looks sharper and better to me.

    Agree 100% Darryl. I bought an F100 as a backup to my OG Nikon D1. They were $1000 USD at introduction! The D1 was untested in March of 2000, so having film in my bag and an F100 gave me piece of mind. Be thankful your career started with the Nikon D3. The early years were a struggle. I shot the D1/D1H/D1X/D2H/D2X before Nikon introduced the D3. It was the first Pro Nikon to shoot full frame with reliable AWB. Cheers!

    • @BeingWolfy
      @BeingWolfy 28 днів тому

      @DarrylCarey - I like several things about the F3, but the #1 thing would have to be the amazing 100% viewfinder. Next would be the build quality and the smoothness of the frame advance. It's the smoothest advance I've ever used. Better than all the Leicas I've used, imho. One other thing I like about it is the fact that the frame advance doesn't need to be pulled out to turn the camera on and take a picture. I hate that about the FM bodies.

    I set my top button as 10x zoom to help focus, the roller wheel as the default exposure compensation, and LV as b&w high contrast - to help with focus peaking. I set my shutter speed to where I think is most appropriate for the lens and let the ISO wander to anything below 8,000. The aperture gets set to what I’m shooting. If I’m doing portraits with the 90, I’ll add the visoflex to the equation..

    Cracking pov mate the Q series is seriously a cracking piece of kit I’m constantly blown away by the Q2 that flippy on the 3 would come in handy tho. I’ve not been to Auckland for a few years cracking views needs more people tho was busier in a Napier lockdarn

      @DarrylCarey Місяць тому

      Hey Paul, hope you are keeping well. I think the only thing worth upgrading to the Q3 is the tilt screen, everything else is almost the same. Yes I wish there was more people, but it’s very safe😜 Not sure I would feel the same walking down Queen Street, it has changed a lot over the last couple of years.

      @@DarrylCarey so I hear mate bit rough down there aye. I watched a wee video other day 2 most dangerous towns in West Yorkshire.....my birthplace was number 1 rough as rancid guts....the worlds going mad at a hell of a pace. Yeah the tilt screen is a nice feature but for me I stick with the 2 until the make a Q4 with a coffee maker built in.
